Did you ever sit on a bench in your back yard or at a park and simply relax into the sights and sounds of nature? Have you closed your eyes so your full attention would be on the bird songs? If you haven’t, it’s high time you did. When you completely immerse yourself in such a scene, you can feel a calmness settling over your mind and body.
As our world becomes ever more chaotic, the need for peace and relaxation increases accordingly. And with gas prices being what they are, we also have a powerful need to find cheap or free ways to accomplish that!
To satisfy both needs, pick up your pen and begin a nature journal. Look out your window and record the changing seasons. Some journalers like to mark the date of the first snowfall or hard freeze.
Focusing all of your attention on the sights, sounds, and smells of nature helps you block out the constant chatter that constantly goes on in your mind. You may find that you’ll have to refocus your attention frequently at first. But gradually your nature experiences will take over. That alone is relaxing!
Journal about the wildlife you see – furry, feathers, and otherwise – and write about their habits. You may feel more kindly towards squirrels after you’ve been entertained by their antics! Immerse yourself in the scene, and at the end of your nature time, record your feelings.
It’s as close as your window and as inexpensive as a pen and notebook. Relax in Mother Nature’s steady rhythms.
